Muniz Goes 5-for-6 Against Daytona Beach
After a 5-hit effort to lead Fort Lauderdale's 12-3 victory over the Daytona Beach Dodgers, right fielder Angel Muniz told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Florida State League-level is really something special."
The 19-year-old player earned his accolades at City Island Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Dodgers.
"His swing is getting there," said Yankees skipper Nick Collins, who spoke glowingly of Muniz after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Angel did that to perfection."
Angel Muniz grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
This season, Muniz is swinging the bat at a .286 pace. He has hit 1 home run and scored 4 times, while driving in 5. His on-base percentage is .310 and he has played in 7 games.
