Jenkins Shines, Shuts Out Los Angeles, 10-0
It wasn't easy but the Chicago Cubs made it look that way.
Starter Fergie Jenkins shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Chicago Cubs cruised to victory, 10-0. Jenkins allowed only 3 hits and rang up 7 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
This season to date, Jenkins has a record of 8 wins and 3 losses with a 2.67 ERA, has appeared in 12 games and struck out 83 in 97.2 innings.

Jenkins Sends Pittsburgh Bats to Deep Freeze
Fergie Jenkins was in a mood to talk following the Chicago Cubs contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates, expounding to BNN reporters on his pitching philosophy. He had good reason to be excitable, having tossed a complete game shutout of the Pirates, 4-0.
"There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location," Jenkins said. "I was hitting my spots time and time again."
The right-hander blanked Pittsburgh on a 4-hitter, allowing 1 walk and racking up 7 strikeouts.
Jenkins has started 11 times this year, pitched 88.2 innings, fanned 76 batters and walked 20. His current record is 7 wins and 3 losses with a 2.94 ERA.
